Spread Holiday Cheer with Operation Thanks: Write Letters of Gratitude to Deployed Service Members

At Wisconsin Women 4 Our Troops, our mission is to bring a little piece of home to deployed service members. This November, we’ll be sending approximately 200 care packages to troops stationed overseas, and we need your help to make these packages extra special.

Why Letters Matter

While each care package is filled with essentials and treats, letters of gratitude are some of our most treasured items included in each box. These heartfelt messages remind our service members that they are appreciated, supported, and not forgotten—especially during the holiday season when they are away from loved ones.

That’s why we’re inviting our network to help us gather letters for this year’s care packages. Whether it’s a simple thank you, a note of encouragement, or a holiday greeting, every message has the power to brighten a service member’s day.

How You Can Help

We’re calling on our volunteers to write letters to include in the holiday-themed care packages. You can write a letter on regular paper, use one of our provided templates, or use your own holiday cards! If you love sending holiday cards to friends and family, consider writing a few extra to show your appreciation for our troops.

The letters don't need to be long, just sincere! They can be handwritten or typed, and you’re welcome to add your personal touch. Share a bit about yourself, offer words of encouragement, or simply send warm holiday wishes. The goal is to make our service members feel supported and remembered.

Templates Available

If you need inspiration, we’ve created a few resources for you.

  • Operation Thanks tips and suggestions to get you started.

  • Templates and slides for groups like schools and community organizations to make the process simple. Using these templates is not required—you are welcome to use your own creativity, and personal holiday cards are a wonderful way to add a special touch!

Deadline for Submissions

We’ll be shipping care packages in mid-November, so we kindly ask for letters to be mailed to us by October 25th or dropped off at Boozhags on November 9th between 1pm - 4pm during our upcoming meat raffle. Our mailing address is below.
